This is a photo of the skyline from the water by the Rialto Bridge in Venice. They light was so dramatic and the buildings do fantastic that I couldn’t resist. A serious storm rolled in about an hour after this picture.

This manikin stood in front of a local Venetian mask shop early in the morning. From far away it looked like a street performer waiting in ambush, but when I got face to face I realized it was simply the best advertisement the shop owner could think of; flaunting the realism of his masks.

This industrious goat in the Berlin Zoo has figured out the system and is working it to the best of his ability. The girl was in the process of buying food pellets to feed to her new friend, while the goat was trying to cut out the middleman.

This photo shows a large male baboon in the process of educating the youngsters. The younger baboons were fighting, chasing each other around. The male had had enough. He jumped up, chasing the younger baboon around and immediately squashed the squabble.

This is one of the rooms in the museum below the Memorial to the murdered Jews. The entire museum is built below ground. If you look at the ceiling you can see where the stelae “protrude” through from above. It is a moving memorial documenting a half dozen families and their losses.

This is the memorial in Berlin to the tens of thousands of the murdered Jews throughout the world. The stelae (the large concrete structures) are 8 inches to over 8 feet in height. It is a stark and startlingly alive memorial.
